Contraindications for Sugaring PLEASE READ Please read the following before booking your appointment: Sugaring deeply exfoliates the skin in the area of the service. It is therefore extremely important to read these contraindications before getting a service. • Sunburned, irritated or areas with open skin cannot be sugared. • Moles cannot be sugared. However, I can sugar around the mole. • You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before sugaring after a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion. • Sugaring cannot be performed if you have been in a tanning booth the same day (but you can get an airbrush tan right after your service!). • Sugaring cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing within the past year. • Sugaring cannot be performed if you have had a physician administered peel within the past two (2) years. • Women may experience extra sensitivity to sugaring up to a week prior to the beginning of their menses and while pregnant. The following is a list of medications that may cause concern and a dermatologist should be consulted before treatment. Please have a doctor clear you for sugaring if you are taking medications that thin the skin (such as Retin-A), blood thinners, or medications that cause you to be sun-sensitive. • Accutane • Adapalene • Alustra • Avage • Avita • Differin • Isotretinoin • Renova • Retin A • Tazarac • Tazarotene • Tretinoin ** This is by no means a complete list. Please talk to your doctor about any medication you are on and follow their advice. ** Sadly, sugaring services can not be performed if you have blood or skin disorders that would be exacerbated by hair removal, if you are at an elevated risk for infection, or if your immune system is compromised. If you have any questions about whether sugaring services are safe for you, please consult your doctor. It is your responsibility to follow medical directives and disclose potential contraindications prior to receiving your service. All clients receive services at their own risk. After Care instructions • 24 hrs after your service stay clean, cool and friction free. • 24 hours after your service keep the freshly sugared area clean and free of bacteria from hands, cell phones, etc. DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FRESHLY SUGARED SKIN WITH DIRTY HANDS! IF YOU MUST PLS WASH YOUR HANDS FIRST! • 24 hours after your service refrain from strenuous activity that might get sweat/bacteria on the freshly sugared area. This includes working out and or sexual activity. • No sun tanning, your freshly sugared area, for 48 hours. • 48 hours after being sugared begin daily exfoliation on the sugared area. 24 hours after sugaring Avoid exfoliating the sugared area for at least 48 hours, even if exfoliation is part of your normal routine. Avoid excessive sweating since your pores, and therefore hair follicles, may become clogged. Avoid any kind of friction to the area. Yes, this includes sex! Especially if you just had your bikini area sugared. Avoid touching the area. Don’t pluck, tweeze or shave your freshly sugared skin. 48 hours after sugaring Exfoliate as needed but with care. Your skin may still be more sensitive than normal. Protect yourself from the sun using a high quality sunblock. Avoid lotions and moisturizers that include harsh chemicals or fragrances. Avoid tanning. The UV light from tanning beds can harm your freshly exfoliated skin. Avoid swimming. Even chlorinated pools and hot tubs can carry bacteria. Give the skin on your body the same care you grace your face with. Three days after your sugar, start a daily exfoliation routine with your favorite scrub! This will exfoliate the thin layer of skin away and set that hair free, preventing an infection. Do not scrub too hard. Moisturize daily using natural products with no additives, preservatives or artificial fragrances. What to expect after sugaring (does not always happen but can happen): • bumps that look like hives These are histamine reaction and is easily identified by a rash that presents itself as welts or bumps. This reaction may happen immediately after sugar. First off, experiencing a histamine reaction does not mean that you are allergic to the wax or sugar product. Creating histamine is one way the body protects itself against the stress of a perceived attack. A histamine reaction is easily identified by a rash that presents itself as welts or bumps. This reaction may happen immediately after your wax or sugar. Histamine is very helpful and it works by enlarging the blood vessels and making them easier to penetrate. The body then swells and protects the affected area. It is the increase in the size of the blood vessels that also additionally creates erythema, which is reddening of the skin. Histamine reactions generally only last a few hours. How to treat it? Not everyone will experience a histamine reaction, but if you do, it has been our experience that it can be treated either with an antihistamine cream (such as Benadryl) or by taking an antihistamine orally before you get sugared. We have learned that if an antihistamine cream is applied directly after treatment, the discomfort can be greatly reduced. Feel free to bring the cream with you to your appointment and have the aesthetician apply it. If you are someone who seeks a more natural approach, Lavender is an essential oil with anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s gentle enough that it can be applied to the skin. Please be advised that the more consistent you are with your sugaring regimen, the less likely you'll be to experience histamine reactions. Bacterial Reaction: What is it? Bacterial reactions present themselves with tiny white pustules on the skin. They look like whiteheads. While a histamine reaction will present itself almost immediately, a bacterial reaction will generally take two to three days before it presents itself. How long does it last? The pustules can be irritating and last up to 2 weeks if not properly treated. How to treat it? The best way to treat it is by preventing it! Bacterial reactions happen when we touch our silky-smooth, freshly sugared skin. We advise our clients not to touch freshly sugared skin. If you are a man getting a chest or back sugared, it's advisable to bring a clean shirt to change into after your treatment. For all females getting a Brazilian done, please bring a fresh clean underwear to your appointments. We also recommend using an antibacterial/antimicrobial ointment to eliminate bacteria in the affected area (like Polysporin). Abstaining from saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, hot tubs, sexual activity, exercise, and anything that can introduce bacteria to the affected area for the first 24 hours after your wax is strongly advised. Lastly, Please mention in your consent form if this is your first time ever receiving any form of hair removal. Or if you have received it in the past, how long ago it was. If you are shaving, you must have at least 2 to 2 1/2 weeks of hair growth or the size of a rice grain. Please also mention if you have any allergies to anything. You are responsible for disclosing all important information. Any questions you can also email us at Denise@pamperhertoosugaring or you may call 774-330-9780 and I will call, email or text you back. Thank you!
